PRESS STATEMENT: Drive for Cape Independence to be intensified, cooperation agreement signed

The four leading Cape Independence organisations, the CIAG, CapeXit, the Cape Independence Party, and the Referendum Party have signed a cooperation agreement.

The four leading Cape Independence organisations, the Cape Independence Advocacy Group, CapeXit, the Cape Independence Party, and the Referendum Party have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in which they have agreed to pursue closer links and to advance a shared vision for an independent Western Cape, which they will collectively pursue both civically and politically.

The organisations believe that the optimal circumstances now exist to significantly advance Cape Independence. The impotence of the GNU and it’s clear failure to produce economic growth, reduce unemployment, address rampant crime, and to protect the interest of cultural and ideological minorities who make up the majority of the Western Cape population, clearly demonstrates the folly of remaining part of a unitary South African state in which the Western Cape people never have and never will be governed according to their democratic will. Recent trips to the United States and Europe have established that there would be international support for Cape Independence were the Western Cape people to demonstrate that this was their democratic will.

The organisations agreed that Cape Independence must materially improve the circumstances of all Western Cape citizens, that genuine non-racialism must be at its core, that economic pragmatism is essential to growing the economy and creating jobs, that law and order, including hard borders, is essential to achieving prosperity for all, and that the unique and diverse cultural and linguistic heritage of the Cape must be protected. The organisations further agree that this is best achieved through a decentralised system of government where power is devolved upwards from local communities and not downwards from a dominant central government. Similar models in equally diverse countries such as Switzerland and Belgium have resulted in human development ratings amongst the best in the world.

The organisations will focus on two key objectives: holding a referendum on Cape Independence which, following the successful example of Veneto in Italy, they will organise themselves, and, significantly expanding its political presence in the Western Cape.

The MOU provides a guiding framework for ongoing negotiations between the organisations, and the intention is to rationalise and consolidate their collective operations as far as is practically possible.

The organisations invite interested parties to get in touch and to help make Cape Independence a reality.
