PRESS STATEMENT: Positive reception for Cape Independence in US, says CIAG

PRESS RELEASE: CIAG delegation to US reports that the ANC is poorly regarded, whilst there is sympathy and in some cases outright support for Cape Independence.

Positive Reception for Cape Independence in US, Says CIAG

A delegation to the United States to promote Cape Independence received an extremely positive reception, says the Cape Independence Advocacy Group (CIAG), which is excited about the opportunities that the extended visit has created.

The delegation arrived in the US on 12 April and departed on 15 May. After further meetings in Europe, it returned to South Africa on 27 May.

The CIAG met with the US administration, members of Congress from both sides of the House, leading think tanks, military experts, and several conservative leaders within the Trump camp. Communication channels are now very much open.

The delegation established that:

  • The ANC is held in extremely poor regard due to its international allies, its farcical attempts to portray itself as non-aligned, its overtly anti-Western rhetoric, its destruction of Africa’s most advanced nation, and the ideological insanity of race-based policies, which have demonstrably devastated the South African economy while marginalising ethnic minorities;
  • There remains some belief that the US can force the South African government to its senses and to implement the radical changes necessary to address these issues (a belief the CIAG does not share);
  • There is considerable sympathy, and in some quarters outright support, for the notion of Cape Independence, especially if South Africa cannot be prevailed upon to change its current course;
  • In the CIAG’s considered opinion, the US would formally recognise an independent Cape if it were to emerge through the peaceful, democratic, and legal process already underway.

The CIAG will now engage other stakeholders in both the Cape Independence movement and the broader drive for decentralisation to determine its next steps.

Senior figures in the US are actively willing to assist in advancing Cape Independence, which would have significant benefits for the United States. Ultimately, it is now up to those South Africans who wish to see Cape Independence become a reality to step up their efforts and build an increasingly vibrant movement that can be amplified internationally.
